Saharanpur is an industrial town in Uttar Pradesh, state of northern India. Based across the river Yamuna, Saharanpur is famous for its woodworking industry. saharanpur is industrially polluted and transfers a lot of pollution to the river Yamuna on its way.

It is considered to be a very rich agricultural area. This small town has a strong agricultural belt with plenty of grains and fruits in store. Many might actually consider Dehradun to be famous for Basmati rice however very few are actually aware that the larger portion of Basmati is grown in Saharanpur district.

Sometime back Saharanpur was considered as a summer resort of the Mughal court however today it is a district administrative center in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Apart from agricultural products Saharanpur also specializes in manufacturing sugar, textile and paper. It also has a number of cigarettes factories operating across the area. It has a water level 3 to 4m below the ground level, very good for rice cultivation. The soil is more alluvial, the typical riverine basin characteristics and is mixed with sand making it more useful for agricultural purposes. The yields for most of the crops are one of the best in India.

As per the 2001 census the population of Saharanpur was recorded of 452,925 people. Moreover it has an average population of 18538 per sq. km. in the city area making it one of the densely populated cities of UP.

Climate of Saharanpur

Saharanpur has a tropical climate because of the proximity of the Himalayan region across this Northern district. It is sub humid region especially the upper Ganga plain areas. Saharanpur records an average temperature around 23.3 degree during the course of the year. June is the hottest recorded month while January is the coldest one. Humidity is more in the western area as compared to the eastern region of Saharanpur.

Industries in Saharanpur

Many agro based industries have been developing across the Saharanpur district off late. One can also find number of cottage industries here. saharanpur does not have enough mineral resources unlike other districts in Uttar Pradesh. However it has industrially backed itself with number of sugar and paper industries, cigarette industry and not to forget the ever famous wood carving industry. Wood work of Saharanpur district is world famous and is exported in many Western countries including USA, UK, Singapore, Sweden, and Kuwait.

Transportation in Saharanpur

Saharanpur does not offer the best of transportation services considering the fact that it is surrounded by mountainous and hilly regions. However if you come across to Bangar region you can find developed roads and railway lines due to fertile land and also topography.

Saharanpur is a perfect destination for you to travel to. You might not find the best of roads and railways lines here due to mountainous regions. However the religious places of Saharanpur is something a tourist just can not resist. saharanpur has many famous temples and religious places out of which Saharanpur Shakti Peeth Shakumbari and Deoband are the most popular among the others. The region is also developing as a major destination for river water sports like white water rafting.
